Prospect and potentiality of finger millet in Nepal: Nutritional security and trade perspective

Millet is an important food crop for ensuring and nutrition security of smallholder farmers marginalized communities in the hill mountain Nepal. The main objectives study were to assess prospects potentiality millet by analysing area, production, productivity, trade year 2009-2019. used a combination exploratory survey secondary data assessing production system, compound growth rate, coefficient variation (CV), instability index (IIN), specialization index. results are compiled synthesis analysis presented both tabular graphic forms. Growth rate showed that area declining but import value, yield increasing at 14.62, 0.47, 0.73 percent per annum respectively. Import export values quantity higher CV as well IIN while lower values. was found -0.992, which indicates introduction phase. Out total millets 78% lies hill, 19% mountain, only 3% terai. highest can be observed Bagmati province least no two. implies there need increase productivity reduce imports make country self-reliant with increased investment research development adequate support from national policies programs.
